Due 3/8/10 TYPE AD #3

1. The pretty car is advertised here. This is a photograph of the car, although it may be film due to the grainy quality.

2. I will use the word "sporty" in the second line for this assignment.
1)serif- the serif is sans serif
2)weight- the weight is extra bold
3)contrast- the contrast is low contrast
4)x-height- the x-height is tall

3. Personally, I do not think the treatment of the text is effective. When I look at a car advertisement, I want to see something interesting, not just plain and straight, that only catches the eye because it is size 60 pt. However, I think that this reflects the ad simply because this car is a much older car, and maybe "type" was not so interesting at all back then. The car catches the eye first, that's for sure, and maybe that is why the text is so plain, so that you pay most attention to the car!

Due 3/8/10 TYPE Ad #2

1. This ad is trying to sell Perfume. This appears to be a photo of the woman but the background is definitely fake, probably a green screen.

2. Enlarge photo for text... Using the word "forming" in the second line.
1) Weight- The weight is between normal and bold in this ad.
2) Contrast- The contrast is medium to high contrast.
3) X-height- The x-height is extra short.
4) Width- The width is normal

3. I think the treatment of the text is effective. I enjoy, as many viewers would, the cool looking text and the original font. The text makes the ad seem more high quality, and enhances the look of the perfume because it shows it might possibly be more "original" and "elegant." The ad's intention is to sell this perfume, and the type does reflect the ad's intention because it is original, which is what all perfume companies want their scents to smell like!

Due 3/8/10 Type Ad #1

1. American Eagle clothing is advertised here in this photo with 9 different pieces of apparel shown. This is a photograph of the apparel in the advertisement.

2. I will be using the top right corner text ("you break it, you buy it") for the questions.
1) Serif- The text I am using is concave.
2) Weight- The weight of the text is extra bold.
3) X-height- the x-height is extra tall.

3. I think the treatment of the text is very effective. All of these shirts have some sort of playful-ness to them and the extra boldness and extra tall x-height keep the letters organized and fun. This reflects the ad's intention because it is different, not just your ordinary "Arial" font that is straight and light weight.

Three Advertisements

1. This ad, by Urban Outfitters clothing has the goal of selling high fashion clothing. It appears to be the same model in all 8 photos, just in different fashionable outfits.

2. The targeted audience is probably girls from the ages of 16-early 20's. Since the targeted audience is so young, this clothing catch's eyes and is popular. It is creative to put together outfits such as these.

3. This ad can be persuasive because it shows not only one stylish outfit, but several. The variety of colors shows that the outfits can be mismatched with each other and still look good. Girls into fashion would admire this ad because it is stylish and up to date with todays fashion!

1.This advertisement is trying to sell jewelry for Valentine's Day. I believe the targeted audience would be men, as the jewelry seems to be only for women.

2.The age range could be very wide for the advertisement, as it is showing a big sale, so a younger male might be able to now afford an expensive pendant or ring for his college sweetheart! There is a photo of what looks like a young couple in the photo, so it may be directed towards young men looking to buy something for his girl, but how many pictures could they fit on here?, I'm sure that this jeweler is trying to target all men, of all ages, to buy their pieces! The marital status for the targeting audience would be a man who is in a relationship, as these pieces are specials for Valentine's Day, which we all know is about love. This jewelry is expensive, but has somewhat of a sale, so it is targeted towards men who are looking to spend money for a loved one, but not SO much that they become in debt!

3.This ad is persuasive because it has many beautiful pieces, especially the diamonds, that target the eyes of all audiences, men and women, children, and teens too. The colors are nice and go along with the theme of Valentine's Day. It is persuasive because it is showing a sale, and some of their best jewelry for the special day!

1.The goal of this ad is for Burberry to sell cologne, for men. I would suggest that the targeted audience is men. There is a slight possibility this could be targeted towards women as well, due to the good looking young men, and could be recommending a cologne to buy for her "man."

2.The age to target is most likely around late 20's or even 30's, shown by the young men advertising the product. The guys in the picture look sophisticated and could possibly be in a band, but dressed nicely, maybe showing that the cologne is a fresh and a sense-catching smell. As it can be a steryo-type that guys in bands are usually single and like to flirt just for attention to himself and the band, this may be targeted to men looking for attention and to get girls attracted to them.

3.This advertisement is persuasive because it has attractive men and although a lot of men might not think of that, the photo itself is "cool" and in style for todays clothing and hair style as well. Women can be attracted into buying this product because of the men on the advertisement and a woman might think of her man as someone who dresses or may acts like these advertisers appear to.
